There`s a filtering option in the Nomads directories that let you pick and choose which fields/parameters you wish to download. That way you don`t have to download the full grib datasets, you just download what you need to use.

Environment Canada started adding overlays to their images a few weeks ago. I guess it would have stopped working back then. Looks like DAWS is trying to import the overlays which is causing errors.

Re: Data files

Hi Jeff:

Well, I'm beginning to see how this all works, and in the process, ran into another problem. I did not realize that the data files are saved onto my hard drive, and those files are huge!! :o

This will be a problem since my hard drive does not have much free space on it. Then, I still ...

What are you doing on here

Have a look around the Blue Marble website(s). You`ll need the much larger images for regional maps. Bear in mind, the more regional your maps become the more grainy/distorted the planetary background will become. Bigger planetary map is better for regional ...

It should work Ian. By default the WINGMODE.DAT file will be set to use bitmap. Just change it to png, also you can change the path to whatever folder you wish for your charts in that same file.

Tim,

Not sure if you`re around, the current DAWS beta will be expiring in the coming days.

I sent you heads up last week, just wondering if you`re aware?

Regards,
Bob.

Thanks Jeff,

Still having some issues with the txt command, or rather it`s placement in the display. For example If I use TXT4 it ends up halfway down the display, TXT18 ends up over the top of the left corner legend.

Just wondering, would it be difficult to increase the naming scheme for the SAVS ...

TXT# command

Jeff,

Regarding the use of the TXT command. I was a little confused by the placement of the text. Which line number on the screen are we talking about?

That said, after reading the paragraph this does not work when using print, can I assume it does not work with savs either? If it doesn`t display ...

Thank you Jeff for adding the .png support, I know bugged you a few times about it. It really cuts down on export file size compared to bitmap :) I didn`t even know it was added until Kevin just posted!

I don`t bother with the grib downloader in wingridds as it seems a bit hit and miss (more miss than anything).

Grib can be downloaded from here
ftp://ftpprd.ncep.noaa.gov/pub/data/nccf/com/

Just download a grib file into your nws folder, and then use the built in wingridds conversion (convert ...
