I know I’ve written about the following before but I’d like to remind everyone how helpful your home weather data is to your local NWSFO. If you are sending your observations to the CWOP, those observations arrive into AWIPS which can then be incorporated in a surface map or used for OBAN surface an...

I'm running DAWS with XP with a gig of Ram. Fortunately thus far, I'm not getting the 'blue screen of death'. Since I've turned off the radar overlays the software is running fine. That is until I get a 'virtual memory error'. I'm aware of the virtual memory error thread has been discussed elsewhere...

scripting radar data crashes software

I’ve running a script that generates a single image plotting the NIDS reflectivity data from four radar sites, overlaid with sfc obs. The script runs twice per hour. Since updating to version “1.1j3”, after a 5-6 h period of time has elapsed, the software either instantaneously closes on its own, OR...

Bob, Thanks for the reply. Concerning the arching, I’m ingesting 12 different surface files at a time for creating hourly sfc maps. I’d like to archive the hourly files similar to the hard-coded archive feature offered in DA 2000 and some earlier versions. At present I’m running both versions (Works...

trouble scripting HRCN model output and auto-archiving obs

Within a script, can someone tell me what the command line is to plot the various NHC HRCN model output? EXAMPLE: “hurricane” will plot the NHC fcst paths Also, does someone know the script command to *archive* downloaded data? I’m stumped when trying to download a bunch of surface data files, conca...

Bob,

Because of your help I was able to determine I had corrupt a file. The archived NIDS data are plotting rather well.
Thanks again, Al

radar color table for gif (web) output

I believe there was some previous discussion concerning poor radar color with a conversion to gif imagery going on the web. Although not perfect and certainly not going to satisfy everyone, I’ve played around using non-dithered colors and the output for the web is improved. See the following as an e...

How do I open and plot archived radar (NIDS) files w/ DAWS?

I need help plotting *archived* NIDS data in DAWS. What’s the trick to open and view zipped files from NCDC? I’ve tried to ingest and view individual zipped files and unzipped files. If the files need to be unzipped, what file extension do I append to the file for DAWS to recognize and read the data...

MCW and XVG

Pat, As I’m not sure what properties you are trying to pleth, so I played around with DAWS2000 (still Tim’s best work, IMHO) and DA workstation. I created a plot centered over KMCW with a 300 mile scale. I was able to ‘see’ your problem after plething various sfc thermo fields (temp, dew, etc.) w/ e...
