Interesting front issue

Post by Joe Stepansky »

Found something tonight that's not critical, but I can't figure out why it's happening. Using DAWS Pro.

If I download, say, METAR and the frontal bulletins from Albany and display the front, all looks well. But if I add the warnings or either day 1 or day 2 convective outlooks from NOAA to my internet download and THEN display the fronts, I get interesting results.

If I download either of the convective outlooks, I get a few stray solid red or blue lines on the chart, in addition to the front depictions from the bulletin. Downloading the NOAA warnings is really fun. If I display the fronts after doing that, I get solid red and blue lines all over my U.S. map. Additionally, I get REALLY BIG cold and warm fronts depicted all over the map. Underneath all of this, the correct front depiction can be seen, so that's displaying properly. I wonder where all this other "junk" is coming from. Again, I can consistently duplicate this by download the frontal bulletins AND either the NOAA warnings or either convective outlook.

The front depiction is the only thing that goes haywire. If I display the convective outlooks they look fine.

So my solution is to download only the fronts, if that's what I want, and save the warnings/convective stuff for a separate download. Would be nice to have them all together, but it's not the world's largest problem.

But it's been fun to really dig in to the program. Most everything works just fine, I just have a few issues with EMWIN/warnings, and now fronts if I also download warnings and/or outlooks.
