Hi All,

Does any one know if there will be any more Updates to DA - Standard version (V2.09), in time for this year's Hurricane season.
I Hope that DA is NOT dead.

Regards

Michael

I think DA is pretty much finished. There have been no updates or bug fixes in some time now.

I may be wrong, but I think Tim's usually involved with storm chasing during the season.
I go on what seems to have happened over recent years.
As I say, I may be wrong.....

There has been nothing to chase really this year! I think the software has been dead for 2+ years! We had lots of promises but we were always disappointed!

I hope the development isn't finished either, as there are quite a few areas that are not working properly, or just not working. I remember a post from Tim many months ago (around September last year IIRC) saying that he was hoping to get to a long list of fixes etc real soon. I've been watching this forum in the hope that there may be a further post from him, but as there hasn't been I'll be emailing him directly.

He will just tell you that he is "currently" working on a new version (again) of DAWS. I think someone should just take over his project so it will get somewhere. There are a LOT of professional users that are not happy with the service right now!

DA is NOT dead. My recent contact (in the last week) with Tim is that he IS gearing up the compiler again almost "as we speak." This IS a sideline, not a job (I'm not scolding anyone who feels impatient). I wish one COULD spend primary time on something such as this, as there isn't anything like it out there for the general consumer. The math alone in this thing is staggering.

What I HAVE discovered, is to make sure you get your requests in during that "window" when he IS at work on it. He will cue you when that "hot" time is.

Thanks for the information, Wally. I think more important than "fixes" is the ability of DA to import data in BUFR format, given that regions will be progressively moving ALL their data to that format in the near to very near future. I have just been told that Europe will be phasing out SYNOP, etc, from 1 November 2010, though I haven't yet been able to confirm that. Or have I missed something and can DA import BUFR data? In which case, sources of BUFR data become an issue.
