New beta test version -- V3.20 test 001

Post by Tim Vasquez »

Effective March 6, 2019 we have a new version (V3.20 test 001) that supports secure https (SSL/TLS) downloads. This is our initial beta test version and could contain unexpected bugs.

For Standard Version users, you may download the software from: http://www.weathergraphics.com/dl/digat ... 01-std.exe

For Professional Version users, use the login info provided in your download instructions to get the Pro version of V3.20 test 001 or contact us.

This version also contains additional fixes, including new (JAG/TI), Canadian, and old wind chill, and better handling of buoy data. The station ID will look slightly different in the QC panel for SYNOP, SHIP, and buoy observations to reflect this, and this allows bad buoys to be permanently hidden from use through the DIGATMOS.RUL file (a buoy near Barrow, Alaska has already been shut off).

DA5 2019 V3.20 / March 2019

* Now supports https (TLS/SSL) downloading.

* Working on: fixing Import Directory & creating a Rule File dialog window

* Added analysis support for new wind chill formula, old formula, and Canadian formula, and also the Australian
apparent temperature. The new analysis menu scripting commands are WCHL, WCHO, WCHC, and HAAT, respectively.

* Handling of buoy handling improved, better integration with SYNOP data. In order to do this, the QUEUE.SYN and
OUTPUT.SYN data structures had to be changed. All WMO numbers as viewed in QC are now prefixed with "W-",
all ship synoptic with "S-", and buoy data with "B-". Unnamed buoys are assigned a temporary numerical
station name based on their coordinates.

* The DIGATMOS.RUL file has been adjusted to allow the new prefixed SYNOP/SHIP/BUOY station names, which are longer.
Numerical stations are always assumed to be WMO stations; ship and buoy stations must use the prefixes above.
Columns are no longer locked to fixed positions and are purely space-delimited now.

* Removed two bad buoy stations in the Barrow, Alaska area by editing the DIGATMOS.RUL file.

* Updated identifier database to 2/10/2019 (WMO, ICAO, and FAA)

* Fixed missing hint text for speed buttons (appears when user hovers over them with mouse).

* SFUK30 and SFUK31 lightning data source was removed from Data > Retrieve Data. This Met Office system was terminated in 2008.

* Fixed station tables to correct Canadian stations 71641 and 71098 (changed within Environment Canada but not
published with WMO).

* Added MADIS mirror source to Data > Retrieve Data panel.

* Adds line breaks in Software Update message to make dialog more readable; allows line breaks to be added to update message.

* Added DENSITY scripting command. This controls the Data Plot Crowding slider bar.
Usage is DENSITY,position where position equals 0, all the way left (sparse) to 100, all the way right (plot all data).

* Plaintext MADIS processing has been optimized to work faster. [Using arrays based on station ID's first letter].

* Antarctic data: Legacy support for SSEC Antarctic data in DIGATMOS.URX has been deleted since the URL
(http://amrc.ssec.wisc.edu/~amrc/9018.txt) is gone and the file-by-file loop is no longer required. The data
appears to be mirrored at ftp://amrc.ssec.wisc.edu/archive/YYYY/M ... .DD.HZ.txt
however this is a new non-standard table, and an ingest algorithm needs to be written.

* Antarctica data import support is removed since the file structure (from the late 1990s) and data is gone.

Tim,

Is there any provision in v3.20 for altering the digatmos.nex file to handle Clear Air Mode radar color choices? It's not 'clear' to me how to do this.

Also, there's a bug that crops up when 1000mb height values are less than zero. For instance, -10dm will show up as +510dm. This causes issues when trying to plot thickness values.

thanks for your time,
Bob

I don't know how often Tim Checks into the BB. I have had better success with his e-mail. he usually answers within a day or two.
