Okay, I think I'm getting there!
1. I can now get a text list of SYNOPs from the countries that DA won't pick up.
2. What I need now, is to find out what data in OGIMET is not picked up and read by DA.
3. I can then edit the data in OGIMET before I cut and paste it into DA
4. I need to know where to paste it into the DA data (if that makes any differnce) and whether I need to add or subtract any more to the text before I finally paste it and run it in DA to produce a synoptic chart.

If anyone can help me with the above, I'd be most grateful.

Regards,
Dave.

Hi Dave,
i copy the synop text into Note Pad and then i copy the 202306290900 AAXX 29094 part of the synop into the replace feature and leaving the other text box empty then press all.
This should remove this timestamp in all the synops for that time.
Dont worry if their is some reports with different timestamps DA will ignore these anyway.
I then save the latest COD file and then open with it with Note pad.
I then copy the modified synops into a AAXX portion
i.e.
SMKA01 PTYA 280600
AAXX 29094
It does not matter what the header says other than 28064 the 4 at the end means winds are reported in MPH whereas most European are AAXX 29091 which mans winds are reported in meters/second

I then copy the modified synops into a AAXX bulletin and then save the COD file and then load that into DA.
i.e.
SMKA01 PTYA 280600
AAXX 29094
It does not matter what the header says other than you have to careful with windspeeds.
ASXX 28064 the 4 at the end means winds are reported and plotted by DA in MPH whereas most European synops are AAXX 29091 which means winds are reported in meters/second. Therefore copy reports ending with 29094 post into a bulletin with ending in 4 and reports ending in ASXX 29091 post into a bulletin ending in 1.
Hope all this makes sense,
regards,
Alan

Yes, I do the same as Alan.
Raw synopsis from Ogimet
latest SYNOP reports from United Kingdom before 06/29/2023 21:05:59 UTC
##########################################################
202306292000 AAXX 29204 03002 25982 02005 10135 20085 30065 40083 57015
333 60005 91007 90710 91110==
202306292030 AAXX 29201 03005 45/81 82103 10118 20088 39984 40082 92030
333 88/59 91004==
202306292000 AAXX 29204 03008 25983 51808 10122 20097 30017 40086 57017 85///
333 60005 83/59 82/60 91011 90710 91112==
202306292030 AAXX 29201 03017 476// 81404 10121 20113 30047 40078 723// 88/// 92030==
202306292030 AAXX 29201 03023 472// 82408 10137 20131 30073 40078 761// 88/// 92030==
202306292000 AAXX 29204 03026 27449 82107 10123 20112 30055 40073 58014 760// 88///
333 55300 20039 60045 87/18 83/32 84/45 91010
90710 91114==
Then using Notepad, Find and replace
202306292000 AAXX 29204 with a ‘blank’ box
do the same with
202306292030 AAXX 29201 (as there seems to be both)
and also with
202306292030 AAXX 2920/ (if there are any)

so you will end up with

03002 25982 02005 10135 20085 30065 40083 57015
333 60005 91007 90710 91110==
03005 45/81 82103 10118 20088 39984 40082 92030
333 88/59 91004==
03008 25983 51808 10122 20097 30017 40086 57017 85///
333 60005 83/59 82/60 91011 90710 91112==
03017 476// 81404 10121 20113 30047 40078 723// 88/// 92030==
etc
Put
AAXX 29204 as a header and save as a 'file' (call it what you like) in the data directory. Then import directory, and it will add it to anything you have imported from the COD.

Try to download the ‘main hour’ Synops ie 1800 as opposed to 1830 1840 as these seem to have m/s winds as opposed to knots.

The data is out there, but it is a real hassle to sort at times. I only download the UK & Ireland synops when they are not on COD and use METARs for the rest!

Thanks Phil,
As with Alan, thanks for your reply, it's really appreciated!

It does sound fairly long-winded, but I'm sure the finished product is worth it.

Dave.

Hi guys,

Thanks Phil and Alan for your help, it's greatly appreciated!

As yet, I haven't been able to make it work, which is a little disappointing, but I'll persevere until I get it sorted.

i've managed the download from OGIMET and I've managed the find next. I've managed to copy the result to a file, but adding it to the data directory hasn't proved successful.

Obviously I'm missing a trick, so I'll keep muddling through until something happens.
I think its lack of familiarty with OGIMET and manipulating the data directory in DA. I've always used the full blown WORD to write all my letters, so even Word Pad is unfamiliar to me.

Anyway, it was good of you to take the time to explain the process, and I'll keep trying until I get it right.
Regards, Dave.

Hi Dave,

Just going through the process again - for into I use Notepad not Wordpad.

Download your OGIMET synops and post into Notepad. They look like this..(download the TXT not HTML)

Then as described 'Replace' in Notepad to remove the Ogimet timestamps (202307031400 AAXX 03144 ) so that the file above now looks like

03002 25580 80312 10125 20089 39927 49945 52012 88///

03031 27584 82716 10119 20085 39674 49990 52004 761// 88///

save that file as any name lets say 'reports'

into
File>'Your name'>AppData>Local>DigitalAtmosphere2017>data

Note 'Your name' is the windows file created when you sign in to the computer
I dont know what version of Digital Atmosphere you have so DigitalAtmosphere2017 could be DigitalAtmospher2015

Then in Digital Atmosphere, run File Import directory

Then Data>Data plots

and they should display.

Hi Phil,
Thanks again for taking the time and trouble to go through this.

i have managed to get the data from OGIMET
I have been able to copy into word pad, and extract the time stamps.
I have NOT really understood how to name the files, but I have given them my own names, eg SWD 3 7 18. or GMY 3 7 18, and i've saved these to my desk top so that I can study / eddit them as required.
i have been able to cut and paste them into the data directory, which is as far as I'vemanaged successfully,
Using <File> <Import Directory> has not yeilded any results, but I will keep trying.
i'm going to give up now, which is very disappointing. I think it's down to Tim now to fix this. I've just purchased a new version of the latest DA (Pro Version) which I have been using in its various incarnations for more than a decade. I perchased the new one bassed on the promise off all the bells and whistles, which I hoped would fix the problem of the large lack of Euro coverage. i'm quite sisolusioned now, and to be honest I feel a bit ripped off. No matter, all good things must come to an end, and I guess that's it for me and DA.
Thanks again for your imput, Phil, I really do apprecite your efforts.
Best wishes,
Dave.
