Hi Everyone,

I've noticed the abbreviation "ACSL" followed by directions in the remarks section of a number of METAR reports, but I'm not sure what it means. Here's an example of how it appears:

KBAB 052355Z 17016KT 10SM FEW120 BKN250 28/03 A2982 RMK ACSL NE-E SLP099 ESTMD SLP 56010

Anyone here have an idea as to what this abbreviation means?

Thanks in advance!
Marc

It stands for AltoCumulus Standing Lenticularus and. These are "wave" clouds that are produced under ideal conditions downwind of significant mountain ranges.
