Scaling vectors

The wind vector plots are rather long for my liking when viewing upper air. I tried to scale the vector back with SDVC=WIND,4 but get 'divide by zero' errors - probably because some places have 0 windspeed. Is there a different way to scale vectors? Am I missing something else?
