I`ve put together a simple surface analysis script, comprising of isobars and frontal depictions for north america.

What data should I be downloading? I want to make sure I`m downloading all the data i`ll need for this. At the moment I`m downloading Metar and buoy data from Albany, and also asus data from hamweather.

Do I need to download synop too? or is metar, buoy and asus enough?

You need to download the Front Placement data. But it depends if you are plotting for Europe or USA! Which one are you looking for?

I want to plot isobar and front charts for North America.
