Creating satellite images

DigitalAtmosphere (DA) does not have the ability to natively
process and display the images from satellite (GOES)
data files (e.g., the data file received from noaaport).

David Taylor (satsignal and friends) has written a
a program (GINIview), with a simple user interface such that it can be
used as a DA extension for such purposes, using DA's scripting
capability. I have been testing, and he has been refining,
a prototype of the program, and I am
happy to say that it is working very nicely in that mode.

The program is available from him from

http://www.david-taylor.myby.co.uk/soft ... l#GINIview

I have put a package "dasatscripts" in the projects section
of the http://www.noaaport.net site, that contains a sample of the DA scripts
that I have used to test it, and which illustrate how it can be
used within the DA environment.

Do you mean the images?
Sure, some of them are here (and some are large). Get e.g., tign01_.......

http://www.opennoaaport.net/rst/sat/img

But the nice thing is that you can generate the images yourself, provided you
have access to the data files.

Do you have any images that were produce on a DAWS map? I would like to see those and how it works!

I was thinking about going to this option about a year ago but i didnt see the program working well with DAWS along with getting the data which is normally fed through NOAAPORT which i dont have. Too expensive.

Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

Hi

You mean a map superimposed on the sat images? Right now, only the images tehmselves
are produced. For superimposing a map, a corresponding dmf file would be needed. Is this
cprrect? I don't know enough about DA.

Noaaport is not that expensive now. But anyway, even if you don't have it, you can have
access to the data. The software I have written and use is designed around the idea
of being able to use the data from a PC with DA, and the data is actually sent
to the network in the apropriate format.

If you look through the archives of the noaaport@yahoogroups, you wil see rerefence
and discussion about QuadsuckerNews, a windows program that will allow you to
retrieve the data in unattended fashion and download ot to your PC, ready to be used
by DA. It inlcudes all NWS buletins, surface data to generate surface maps, radar data,
and so on.

You can read more about this in the Projects section of the http://www.noaaport.net site (under
News or nntp project), or write to me if you want more details.
