Thanks for the lesson. I tried it and everything works great. This opens up a whole new world for me.

Again, thanks for your help and knowledge.

Here's a few you might like, but don't ask about the units involved, I'm not always sure about them myself.

Moisture Convergence

Code: Select all

DVCV CONT CINT=20 GRTN=0 COLOR=125:100:50 CONT DADD CINT=20 LSTN=0 COLOR=0:100:0 CONT EQUA=0 LINE=1 COLOR=160:0:128 SMLT=2:MIXR STOR=2 SMLC=1:1000000 STOR=1 DVRG WIND
500mb Vorticity Advection

Code: Select all

MXMN CONT DADD EQUA=0 COLOR=160:0:128 CONT CINT=100 DOTS LSTN=0 COLOR=0:0:255 CONT CINT=100 DOTS GRTN=0 COLOR=255:0:0 ADVT SMLC=1:10000 STOR=1 AVRT WIND H500
Pressure Tendency - 3hr. in 10's of mb's; this one only works with Synoptic data.

Code: Select all

MXMN CONT DASH EQUA=0 COLOR=160:0:128 CONT CINT=5 LSTN=0 COLOR=255:0:0 CONT DOTS CINT=5 GRTN=0 COLOR=0:0:255 PTEN
0-6km Mean Wind - barbs

Code: Select all

BKNT SDVC=9:5 STOR=9 SSUM=7:8 STOR=8 WIND H000 STOR=7 SSUM=6:3 STOR=6 SSUM=4:5 STOR=5 WIND H925 STOR=4 WIND H850 STOR=3 SSUM=1:2 STOR=2 WIND H700 STOR=1 WIND H500
1000 - 500mb Mean Humidity

Code: Select all

HILO CONT CINT=5 DADD COLOR=0:120:0 SDVC=9:5 STOR=9 SSUM=7:8 STOR=8 RELH H000 STOR=7 SSUM=6:3 STOR=6 SSUM=4:5 STOR=5 RELH H925 STOR=4 RELH H850 STOR=3 SSUM=2:1 STOR=2 RELH H700 STOR=1 RELH H500
Okay, these are some of my better scripts that will fit on the Menu system. How you arrange them is entirely up to you.

Enjoy,

Very nice Bob!

Quick question though, do you know where you can download the Raw data every hour? Right now there is only the Normal 00Z and 12Z data! I would like this to update every Hour like RUC. if you know of a place, can you please post it, thanks man!

Well, I'm no expert about any of this but here's what I'm somewhat familiar with...

Radiosonde data is only updated twice a day at 00Z and 12Z. Therefore, any script that uses this data is going to be limited to whenever it's made available. There's nothing DAWS can do to generate more frequent updates.

Synoptic observations are taken every 6 hours at 00Z, 06Z, 12Z, and 18Z. There's an intermediate update that goes out every 3 hours for parts of the world, but the U.S. is not included in this. Synoptic obs are the ones that contain pressure trend information.

Metar data is updated every hour, but it only contains surface data, not upper-air. And for some reason - that I haven't looked into yet, U.S. Metar data that goes out at the intermediate synoptic hours does contain pressure trend information. Perhaps there's a way to combine the two datasets at those hours.

Anyway, if someone wants to elaborate on any of this, please feel free to do so.

Bob, thats great...thank you

The barograph trace (or whatever its called in the automated junk) has been included with three-hourlies for a long time, it's like a mini synoptic observation:)..I don't know the exact date but it was included before the US conversion to METAR.

Pat

Ps Since the automated observational systems took over in the US, we don't really have synoptic observations any more....noticed any cloud types being plotted for the US lately?

Hello fellas:

Listen, I really hate doing this, but I am wondering something. I was tweaking the colors I wanted in the scripts for severe parameters, and for some reason, they are producing funky results. I guess you can change the colors for each level, and that's what I did. Here's a copy of the scripts I tweaked some:

ANALYZE,STOR=1 TEMP H850
ANALYZE,STOR=2 TEMP H500
ANALYZE,STOR=3 DEGC DWPT H850
ANALYZE,STOR=4 TEMP H700
ANALYZE,STOR=5 DEGC DWPT H700
ANALYZE,STOR=6 SDIF=1:2
ANALYZE,STOR=7 SDIF=4:5
ANALYZE,STOR=8 SSUM=6:3
ANALYZE,SDIF=7:8

ANALYZE,OVER FILL COLOR=221:221:255 FILS=0 GRTN=10
ANALYZE,OVER FILL COLOR=187:187:255 FILS=0 GRTN=13
ANALYZE,OVER FILL COLOR=151:151:255 FILS=0 GRTN=16
ANALYZE,OVER FILL COLOR=119:119:255 FILS=0 GRTN=19
ANALYZE,OVER FILL COLOR=083:083:255 FILS=0 GRTN=22
ANALYZE,OVER FILL COLOR=255:255:138 FILS=0 GRTN=25
ANALYZE,OVER FILL COLOR=255:255:117 FILS=0 GRTN=28
ANALYZE,OVER FILL COLOR=255:255:074 FILS=0 GRTN=31
ANALYZE,OVER FILL COLOR=255:255:000 FILS=0 GRTN=34
ANALYZE,OVER FILL COLOR=255:000:000 FILS=0 GRTN=37
ANALYZE,OVER FILL COLOR=255:000:255 FILS=0 GRTN=40

ANALYZE,HILO CONT CINT=2 DOTS COLOR=255:088:009
STAMP
------------------------------------------
# TT Index used to predict severe weather

ANALYZE,SSUM= 5:6 STOR=6 SDIF 3:4 STOR=5 SDIF 1:2 STOR=4 TEMP H500 STOR=3 DWPT H850 STOR=2 TEMP H500 STOR=1 TEMP H850

ANALYZE,OVER FILL COLOR=081:255:081 FILS=0 GRTN=44
ANALYZE,OVER FILL COLOR=053:255:053 FILS=0 GRTN=46
ANALYZE,OVER FILL COLOR=000:253:000 FILS=0 GRTN=48
ANALYZE,OVER FILL COLOR=192:192:192 FILS=0 GRTN=50
ANALYZE,OVER FILL COLOR=128:128:128 FILS=0 GRTN=52
ANALYZE,OVER FILL COLOR=255:128:192 FILS=0 GRTN=55
ANALYZE,OVER FILL COLOR=255:000:255 FILS=0 GRTN=58

HILO ANALYZE,CONT LSTN=48 GRTN=53 CINT=3 DOTS COLOR=100:100:100
ANALYZE,CONT GRTN=55 CINT=5 DOTS COLOR=100:100:100
STAMP

Any help with solving these tweaks is greatly appreciated.
BTW, I was wondering if say for the tt index, the levels could begin with 40
and end with 58? These scripts are 1) k index and tt index.

Randy,

The best way to check colors for scripts is to use a graphics program like Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop, but you can even use Paint if you need to, it comes with Windows.

Bob:

Thanx. I just downloaded colorcop, and the colors seem fine. But, running the scrips is showing extra dotted contours for some reason. Also, is this script complete?

BKNT SDVC=9:5 STOR=9 SSUM=7:8 STOR=8 WIND H000 STOR=7 SSUM=6:3 STOR=6 SSUM=4:5 STOR=5 WIND H925 STOR=4 WIND H850 STOR=3 SSUM=1:2 STOR=2 WIND H700 STOR=1 WIND H500

My reason for asking is that there are no analyze commands or anything showing a result, unless I missed something.
