SFC Wind Shader
Since we should start seeing some rather windy mid latitude cyclones before too much longer I thought I'd do a simple wind speed shader. It uses a "normal" gradient shader starting at calm (feel free to change the colours above 50 - or any of the others :

Incidentally, if you like this gradient fill you can adapt it to most any other analysis types. For example, it looks rather good with degf temps a 2 degree intervals - maybe make one for winter and summer
Using the above script modified for temps from 30-80 degrees at 1 degree intervals produced the following result:
The map only goes from 30-70 degrees so the full range of the gradient isn't included - it's just to give an idea what it looks like. If you are curious, the isotherms/fill are from 18Z on 3 April, 1974

First off it was posted in knots so that needs to be changed to mph (vknt was changed to vmph). Basically it was good of Tim Vasquez to include meters per second to mph for us in a script command. Contours are in black. If you wanted wind vectors to plot, just copy and paste the last line of the preceeding sccript into this one.
This will analyze from "violet" to blue the vast majority of the time in our neck of the woods, Randy.
I suggest downloading the MADIS file (~5mb) to get the most variability using DigAtm Fusion.
I suppose, until real program derived gradients are available, the best gradients using MADIS will be achieved using the above and maybe relative humidity in an adjusted script. Both are values that will fit into a gradient script better, primarily independent of seasonal variations in value - in other words their respective values will always fit into a static script rather well.

I am getting a chart that says Surface Wind in the lower left corner of the map. Shouldn't that say temp? Do I need to change something else as well?
The temps look right though...just says Surface Wind is all.

I am getting a chart that says Surface Wind in the lower left corner of the map. Shouldn't that say temp? Do I need to change something else as well?
The temps look right though...just says Surface Wind is all.

Beau,
To get it to display temperature just add degf temp to the end of the first ten lines or so.
Also if you don't like all that text, you can make it less noticeable. Go to Preferences, Styles, Legend block and change the settings to 1 and Arial, the text will hardly be noticeable.
For dewpoint replace degf temp with degf dwpt.
For pressure replace it with slpr and enter values like 1001.5 etc after grtn.
Edit: Open digatmos.mnu (found in the root directory of DAWS) with notepad. This file contains the analysis commands that drive the DA WS menu. I just thought this may help you to see what the various commands look like and what they are for. If you want to run analysis commands from this file in a script, just add analyze, at the beginning. For example:
CONT CINT=2 COLOR=200:0:0 DASH TEMP = the menu entry for C temps
analyze, CONT CINT=2 COLOR=200:0:0 DASH TEMP = the script entry to use
