GRIB Forecast data for Europe

Post by JBull »

Hello,

Is there a place that I can FTP GRIB weather elements for Europe?

I run a non-profit forecast site for the astronomy community and would like to expand from CONUS to Europe/Asia/Canada

My website is http://www.astroforecast.org

The data is from NOAA NDFD in GRIB format. I'm looking for the same from other locations.

Thanks

Unfortunately I think you`ll be limited to north america because the datasets are smaller like the grid 211. For Europe you`re looking at the global models which are much larger, Digital Atmosphere cannot ingest these large grib files/domains without crashing.

DAWS is very limited when it comes to grib. You might be better checking out Jeff Krob`s software, PcGridds/Wingridds which is really coming along nicely. It`s free and does a great job with nearly all the main grid domains.

Sorry I didn't specify more information. I won't be using Digital Atmosphere.

I just need to access GRIB forecasts, by ftp or http. I have many tools for handling the files after I get them. I am just looking for the proper place to get the GRIB. The forecast elements I'm looking for are Cloud Cover and Relative Humidity.

I have searched Google looking for some place to get the data. I have not found it yet. The data can be in GRIB or NetCDF format, or any other database format. Unfortunately most of the sites I have found with Google are foreign language and I can't read them. The UK MET site has no links that I can find to GRIB forecasts, only graphical.

It is possible that I will have to purchase access to forecast databases. Just hoping someone here knew the place to get basic forecast elements by free ftp.

Hello,
You can download Grib data files for all weather parameters and for whole globe from http://nomad3.ncep.noaa.gov/
You can choose latitude and longitude and select your weather parameter.
You can choose GFS model at 0.5°x0.5° or 1°x1° of resolution.
You can use DAWS to draw the weather charts.
Bye
