I use PTEN in my scripts and it will plot like this sometimes:
Other times it will plot just fine! Do you know what causes this error and how to fix it? Thanks for your help!

It looks like no pressure tendency data was available for the software to decode. This map was generated at 04Z... Generate these types of maps at three hour intervals only; 00Z, 03Z, 06Z, 09Z, 12Z, 15Z, 18Z, 21Z. For central time, just subtract 6 from the numbers (or five when DST gets here).
Regarding the half filled blue squares, I think this is just a side effect of the software trying to perform a fill when no data is available for analysis.
