"Extra" Soundings

Post by AB5R »

I realize that "normal" soundings are twelve hours apart and there are several sites that data is available. I futher realize that a sounding can take some time to occur and even MORE time before it is posted.

(I discovered that I could get a current sounding faster using the COD site before even Unisys or the others.)

My question is about those "extra" or "special" balloons sent up at odd times and situations arise. Like today (6-5-08), KOUN Norman. OK sent one up at 1900.

I was able to get data from the SPC, but none of the other usual sources. Does anyone have good sources for these "special" soundings. other than SPC?

Thank you,
Jerry

There are "extra" sounding sites out there, but unfortunately they are via private or government activities and closed to public use. Your best bet is to access short-term (such as 6 or 12 hour) forecast soundings, such as via BUFKIT ...
