Pressure tendency symbol missing

Post by geophi »

On Digital Atmosphere Equinox version 1.40d (and previous?), the symbols for pressure tendency are missing in my installation. The numbers are plotted to the right of the station circle, but no tendency symbol is plotted.

Also, the "Unknown Precipitation" (UP) symbol is "//". This may be the correct symbol, I just don't remember seeing it before. Are others seeing this as well?

I've removed the weather symbols true type font (meteo.ttf) and reinstalled it but no changes. Bug, or problem with my installation?

This is on WindowsXP Pro 64bit.

Thanks.

geophi,

I have passed your questions on to Tim and either he or I will reply to this thread within a day or so, once he's had a chance to look into them.

Thanks,
Shannon

geophi, here's Tim's reply. Please let me know if this helps:

Well, first, go to Control Panel > Fonts and confirm that
WeatherSymbols is actually there. Then we can figure
out what to do. I really am not sure why it's not using
the font on your particular computer.

Also try going to File > Font Mode > NMC and doing
another surface plot to see if the symbols get plotted there or not.

This is correct; there's no standard symbol for it so we just go
with two soliduses.

The "Weather Symbols" true-type font is in the Fonts list.

Changing the Font Mode to NMC/NCEP Raster results in the pressure tendency symbol plotting. Changing it back to TrueType results in no symbol being plotted.

Installing 1.40d from scratch on another PC, this time with WinXP Home as an operating system, the same problem is seen.

On both PCs, weather symbols appear to plot fine, whether NMC or TrueType.

Thanks, George. Tim looked into the code and here's his reply:
I checked and we are actually missing the pressure trendlines
in the WeatherSymbols font. This is not a problem on your computer
or installation. I'm not sure whether they were not added
when we developed it years ago or if they got stripped out.
We will get this fixed in one of the upcoming patches.

Tim
I have added this to the Feature and change requests thread to make sure it gets in the next patch.

Thanks Shannon,

Looking into it more, reinstalling from DVD (1.11a) on another PC, the symbols are there. They must have been somehow removed in one of the patches
