Getting back up to speed

Post by Tim Vasquez »

Just to let you all know that I am going to work to get more involved with the forums. I had planned on doing that earlier this summer, but after taking damage from the May 10 tornadoes and moving into a new house, it has been an incredibly busy season. Then we had to handle all of the college orders over the past few weeks with school starting.

Anyhow this is to confirm there WILL be an update to Digital Atmosphere this fall. I use the software all the time so "retirement" is not in the cards.

Also I switched the forum today from vBulletin to phpBB, as the former software package is pretty expensive and I wanted to phase it out.

Tim,

Nice to hear you are well and back.
There's a hardcore of ardent DA followers and users still out here and I am sure I can speak for all when I say 'nice to have you back with us'.

New forum looks fine.

Regards Peter

Thanks Peter.

The board still looks a bit "fresh out of the box" and I noticed it was even configured to let guests post (i.e. spam), so I am going to make a few changes to the board today to make it look better.

Tim, it is great to have you back, and certainty that DA will continue to develop. Things were beginning to get a bit quiet on the forum.

Just to recap for the benefit of others what I discussed with you by email - that a major part of moving DA forward is going to be getting it able to import BUFR code. This single code will progressively replace all the codes that DA currently ingests, including SYNOP, TEMP, PILOT, SAO and METAR. Some European countries are likely to phase out these old codes as early as November this year. The main problem at present is to find any BUFR code freely available on the web, although it has apparently been transmitted by a number of countries over the GTS for some time in parallel with the old code. If anyone locates a live source of BUFR messages, please let the forum know, and in particular Tim, who needs it as a test bed.

Just to echo the coments made above - good to have you back Tim! DA is still an exciting bit of kit, and I'd be devestated if it wasn't around. I'm just getting into shapefiles and custom geography so an upgrade soon would be superb!

Best wishes Tim,
Live long and prosper!

I don't have a list of capabilities yet, sorry (that will have to wait for final release), but programming work has begun.

I wouldn't be surprise but still no update after a month! Any news at all? We haven't been waiting on a update for about 2-3 years on this software. I guess another 2-3 years wouldn't hurt. We don't even have a update on what is being done if ANYTHING is being done. Please stop toying with us and tell us what is going on. Your support was 100 times better about 5-6 years ago when a lot of us bought this software. Now it is turning into a something that can't keep up on technology.
