Comments and historyOstrov Bolshevik was probably constructed around 1960, and due to the runway dimensions is believed to be a planned interceptor airfield covering a remote part of the Soviet Arctic which was abandoned during construction or served limited use. It may have been abandoned during the mid-1960s as the US bomber threat was eclipsed by ICBMs.
