I'm about to start working on this.

I anticipate projection mismatches being the main difficulty, if at all. I am pretty certain the Bracknell charts are mostly polar stereographic while Digital Atmosphere is exclusively orthographic. I may adapt DA to plot other projections, though there hasn't ...

I am now getting consistent GRIB dta (GRIB2 I think) from the new European service from Meteosat-8 (a.k.a. MSG-1)

GRIB DATA from http://www.globalmarinenet.net/grib.htm and from NCEP at http://www.emc.ncep.noaa.gov/data/ . These are the only sources I know of at the present time.... and I'm offering free products to anybody that can dig up other consistent real-time sources. Our free test version will plot ...
