SAO code "getting in the way"

Post by Wally Mayo »

I notice a number of stations plot temps wrong because of metar files including data like...

SACN82 CWAO 081700
MAN NIL=
MBR SA 1700 AUTO8 M M M M/-02/-05/0406/M/M M 86MM=

which is like the old SAO code. Then when KMBR, which is done right
METAR CMBR 081700Z AUTO 04006KT M02/M05 RMK AO1 T10181046=
is in metar file, it doesn't plot or override.

Can we have the interpretation module reject such improper data (even if it is an option)? Otherwise, particularly in the northeast and Canada, there are quite a few scattered plots with very bad temp depictions.

This has been fixed for the upcoming V1.1h. Added checks to force an airways (SAO) station to Canadian (Cxxx) if "AUTO1", "AUTO7", etc are found in the report. I also added in a Recompile Tables option to ignore obsolete stations, which fixes some problems with Mexican METAR reports. I will be distributing station lists with obsolete stations ignored by default.
