Variable and Missing Wind Plotting Errors in Fusion

Post by geophi »

These errors are holdovers from previous versions of Digital Atmosphere and continue in this beta version.
  • When a variable wind is contained in a Metar (such as VRB04KT), Digital Atmosphere plots it as a wind from an ENE direction always. This is then utilized, apparently, in any objective analysis involving the winds as well.
  • When a wind is missing in an otherwise complete Metar, such as frequently occurs during freezing rain situations, Digital Atmosphere will not plot the Metar observation at all, essentially treating it as missing.

So for a file imported into Digital Atmosphere with two Metars as follows

    Code: Select all

    KTOP 281653Z VRB04KT 2SM +TSRA BR FEW008 BKN030 OVC042 12/11 A2996
         RMK AO2 LTG DSNT E AND S PRESFR SLP141 P0050 T01220111=

    KICT 281656Z 6SM BR OVC046 16/16 A2989 RMK AO2 TSE52RAE48
         SLP114 P0023 T01560156=

the plot that Digital Atmosphere gives is:

Note the ENE wind at TOP, and the missing observation at ICT.

I know this doesn't answer your question, but I'm curious - how do you get those little circles with the different stations?
