GRIB Files

Post by Dave Exton »

Hi everyone! Can anybody tell me if the GRIB facility is working in the new version yet? I've delved into GRIB downloading, very superficially, and wondered if anyone had any wisdom to impart :-)
Thanks.

Hi Dave,

I use the GRIB options all the time. In Digital Atmosphere I import the RDPS Sea Level Pressure & Thickness for the background isobars on Forecast Lab. I've been doing it 3 times a week since maybe late 2021 when I added the functionality.

I would advise not trying to do anything too complicated with the GRIB functionality, but most of the defaults should work fine for basic charts. I'm not sure if any ECMWF HRES data is available anywhere (whatever happened to their Open Access policy anyway?) but if it shows up somewhere I will add it.

Hi Tim,

I'm pulling my hair out with the Grib portion of DA. No matter what I do, whether I try to download a Grib file, or retrieve one, the parameter dropdown never, ever populates with the data. I set up Windows Sandbox on Windows 11 workstation, installed DA 3.50 pro in the sandbox and the Grib files work perfectly. I have spent the better part of the day trying to analyze what is running in the normal machine that DA doesn't like.

For now, I can live with running in the sandbox, it's just a pain if the computer has to be restarted, or I accidently close the sandbox, I have to reinstall DA.

When it runs, the Gribs work beautifuly.

Any ideas what could be causing this. I know it's a local, machine issue if it runs in the sandbox. I just cannot see for the life of me what could be causing this.
