On the site I saw a price of 49 GBP for GSS+Autoget. You best ask David Taylor what is the best choice for you. I know you can always get a temporarily licence so you can give it a try. As far as I know it's valid for a few weeks.
You can run both programs in batch. I don't have much experience with autoget but more with GSS. I use this one in combination with Data Manager to receive MSG every 15 minutes. I start a batch that makes 3 images (different areas) and save them in a DAWS folder. Then a script imports it and adds .... to it. Indeed, al automatically.

Fred,

Having read the thread below and your article in GEO Quarterly 2, I have still not been able to import my satellite images into DAWS.

I have saved the image from Wxtoimg without any problems, and I am able to generate a new map in DAWS as per your instructions, the problem arises when trying to save and load a map, as DAWS only would appear to let me save the file as *.DMF, likewise when trying to load a basemap using your instructions.

Map/Load Base Map - I get a window only letting me load files with an extension of .DMF

Am I doing something wrong, or is there a file that requires changing to enable DAWS to load .BMP files.

I am using a registered version of DAWS Ver 1.1i with Win 98v2

Hello Peter

You are close. The procedure is:
1. Generate a map, fine-tune it and save it as .dmf. This has to be done just one time.

2. Make an image in Wxtoimg and save it.
3. Load the map from step 1. This must be done to show DAWS the area that will be displayed.
4. Use <Map|Import map> to IMPORT the image. It will now be placed over the loaded map.

A short script to do this. You just have to change some names.

load,d:\Program Files\DigitalAtmosphereWS\maps\Wereld wxtoimg.dmf
import,d:\Mijn Documenten\Digital Atmosphere\map\wxtoimg msa.bmp
basemap
stamp

The last time I used images from Wxtoimg (some months ago) there was an error in the .jpg-files. This resulted in very strange colors in the image after loading into DAWS. The solution is to save them as .BMP in Wxtoimg.

Succes

Fred,

Many thanks for the advice, I now have the image imported into DAWS, however the image always seems to go 20 deg to the right and the image wraps around the screen, rather than the image being in the centre. I have played with the parameter settings as documeneted in GEO No2 but I always end up with the image to far over to the right. When I add basemap from DAWS map menu this overlays central to the screen as per your instructions.

Have you any ideas why the Wxtoimg always goes to the right by 20 deg, I assume I have either got something wrong or have altered something else in error.

Your thoughts and suggestions appreciated.

Hello Peter

Because I use MSG it's a long time ago I used Wxtoimg in combination with DAWS. I will try to receive an image one of these days. For now the values I used (and I think they are still valid).
Wxtoimg.
<Projection>: Ortographic. (is this one correct? Because your story sounds that you used another projection somewhere)
<Options|Projection options> 55, 5, 75, 35, -25, 35, 800.0

Hello Peter

I did a quick test with a file from more then a week ago (noaa-18), received on another system. I decoded it with the values according to GQ2 and used the map overlay. The image was shifted from the map overlay, I think because of a possible time difference between the 2 systems.
I imported this image into DAWS again with the values of GQ2. Adding a basemap resulted in an image where the 2 map overlays exactly fits.

So my conclusion still is that one of the 2 (DAWS or wxtoimg) is not orthographic.

Succes

Fred
