Here is a tropics overlay...

Still working out colors, though.

And, I would appreciate any other maps/combos!
Yes, the two projections do match "fairly" well:) That is the biggest pain finding satellite imagery that everybody has access to (without needing to use other software).

Feel free to share the values you entered for the US overview map. I've always had a heck of a time getting that one to fit exactly in DA WS - even though the projection isn't all that different.

Well i should ask where did you get the txt file (cords) for the BAMD, BAMM, BAR.. i found the GDFL and NHC is already entered in the new fusion program!

Thanks in advance!

In DA WS (this isn't the Fusion board BTW) tick the box next to Hurricane model forecast (NHC) in the retrieve menu to download model information for the two bam models you were wondering about and lbar (bams isn't available).

Click data hurricane tracks, model output - the 2 bam and lbar should plot.

Ok... i didnt know that was it. Thanks for your help man!

I will be using this in DAWS.. not Fusion as it isnt "supported" fully yet!

Hey everyone. :D

I actually ended up getting it to work in Fusion but I'm sure the same coordinates would work well anyway.

To get the map (or as close as I could get it at least - it ends up just ever so slightly off in South America and in Central America) here is what I did.

Select Atlantic (Caribbean) from the pull down menu and make the map 1600 pixels wide by 1000 tall. Make the scale 2450. Change the latitude to 20.0 and the Longitude to -70.0. I'm also not sure if this comes up on regular maps or if I did this and what affect it has, but I have 1 in both boxes of "aspect".

Just save the satellite image to your computer and "Import Map (from File)" it should more or less be exactly over it. MAybe someone can nail it down closer than I can.

And when I click download hurricane models I get all the models, including the BAM, etc.

Here are some of the things I've made.

Enjoy.

Nice work with the Caribbean map. I'll have to try it out!

Basically an increase in aspect mainly stretches either the right or bottom of an image, depending on whether you are dealing with x or y. An increase in offset basically stretches the image in the horizontal or vertical, depending on whether you are adjusting x or y. Decreasing the value does just the opposite of course. Use whole numbers with aspect, decimals with offset.

If you create basemaps in DA WS, be sure to write any aspect and offset adjustments down (which I didn't do:) if you plan on using them in Fusion, as the settings are not retained at the moment.

Anyway, I hope everybody starts doing these :)

BTW, the satellite images from here:
http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/satellite.shtml
Under "GOES-East/West Hurricane Sectors" all use the mercator projection so you should get them to fit in DA WS relatively easily. Just click on OK when the range check error pops up and do a data plot to get rid of the hourglass thing, and then do a window remove last product & save the basemap:

Mercator for all.

Gulf4KM:
lat/long 25,-88
scale 1775
720X480

Atlantic 8km:
lat/long 24, -73.25
scale 3550
720X480

Aspect and offset don't require any ajustment and the analyses seem to work well.

Ok folks, I'm in the process of setting up a link to my site where there are a number of sat-map combos.
It will have the US, east, tropics, north atlantic, Great Lakes, and perhaps more. Look at what I have first, and if you have some you want to contribute, then email them to me, and I will add them.
It was wonderful to find the Navy site with "good" sat perspectives. It sure would be nice to find one more site with either Ortho or Mercator projections.
I'll have this up shortly.

Ok - done....
It's here:
http://www.weatherroanoke.com/daws
It matches maps at
http://www.nrlmry.navy.mil/nexsat_pages/

When I have time, I'll give the exact sat pics on the Navy site for the maps in my directory, but just look at them ... you'll see how they match.

Let's build up a nice library of these!

Wally, if you have an auto script to go with the maps that would be nice to include.

Another version of the north Atlantic map (I couldn't find the one Wally used on the NexSat site). Generate a map using the following:

Mercator
Lat=22.0
Long=-43.7
Scale=7700
Width=1200
Height=900
X Offset=13
X Aspect=1.01
Y Offset=2
Y Aspect= .96

You'll probably get a range check error after generation, if it shows up click ok, do a data plot, then window remove last product. Save the basemap.

This works with the following image:
http://www.nrlmry.navy.mil/tropics-bin/ ... &SIZE=Full

Sorry about the link.

You can use this with geo color, visible, and water vapor as well.
