When I try to change the style from regular to AWIPS or Classic, checking "Save as default preferences" and pressing the "Save Changes" button, then re draw a map, the map keeps coming up in the Regular Style. Any suggestions appreciated.

You have to actually set this in the Map Generation panel. Click on the wire mesh globe speed button to bring up the pane. You'll see a combo box for color style directly below image height - make your choice from here. You'll need to reset it each time you start the program as it always defaults back to regular, but it will remain on AWIPS or classic all the while the program is running once set.

Regarding the preferences section, you are only saving the changes you make to the color scheme as the default for that style - it's not setting it as the default map generation style.

Might not be a bad idea for Tim to include something in preferences that let's a user permanently set which style they prefer. Then when person starts the program it will default back to what they actually want.

I like the AWIPS setting because the maps generate faster.
