Printing the Manual

I have been trying to print the manual for DAWS (manual.pdf). It seems to print the headings alright; however, the body of the text comes out in little squares.

I can print other documents OK, so it's not the computer or printer that seems to be the problem. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Mark, If you haven't already, try Adobe Reader 7.0 free download at :http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html,it woks fine. The manual is about 150 pages, but contains several blank pages for notes.

Hi, Richard;

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, Acrobat Reader 7.0 is only for Windows XP and Windows 2000. I am using Windows 98 SE and the latest reader for that platform is version 6.0.2.

This is probably not an Acrobat problem as I intentionally use slightly outdated stuff to produce materials... the PDF was done under Acrobat 5.0. It sounds like your printer is not using (or unable to use) specific fonts given to it by Acrobat.

Set your printer driver to use only downloaded fonts, not the fonts residing in the printer. This should be in your printer driver's control panel under a Fonts tab of some kind.

Or in Acrobat > Print, look for an option that says "print as image".

Hello, Tim;

Thankyou for the hints... I solved the printing problem by opening Acrobat Reader (ver 6.0.2) and then going to the "Document" menu. At that location, I made sure that the "Use Local Fonts" item was unchecked (it was checked previously).

The manual seems to print perfectly now.
