Anyway, this should help to show how interaction with higher terrain may cause trouble for a tropical cyclone. As DA WS has the ability to plot tropical cyclone tracks and intensities, this should be a great deal of fun with the current Dennis and future cyclones.

Updated mercator map (to remove all vector markings as you can add your own combination using DA WS--and to correct a minute error) and added an orthographic, for those who like the projection (which I prefer:)

When adding DA WS vector outlines to the mercator map you will get a range check error, to correct this just click OK on the error message, do a data plot (or analysis), click window remove last product, then once the plot is erased go to map-copy markings onto basemap, then save the base map again (with the same name or something different). I've no idea where the error message comes from as DA WS generates a perfect mercator map. This "error" will not happen at all using the orthographic projection.

Both maps were created by importing an ~ 26,000 pixel wide planetary map.

Tropics--Large Scale

This should just about cover everything of any importance in the US...outside of those weird little dudes that hit Arizona from time to time:)

Be sure to check Manicouagan Crater just north of Maine in Quebec, Canada at a lat-long of of about 51.4376N, -68.7483W (for those who have never noticed, the bar at the bottom of the DA WS analysis pane displays latitude and longitude in the second section from the left--so you can move the mouse around a bit to help you find it)...one of my favorite things to look at on a relief map:)!!

No doubt the tropical season has started with a bang...let's hope if it keeps up at this rate most of the cyclones will cause more problems for fish than they do people!! At least the Cuban land mass seems to have done some damage to Dennis. Although I'm sure it caused, unfortunately, severe damage to the island.

Choose right interval
Generate base map
Import planetary map.
Add basemap
Copy markings
Save.

Everything Fred said except for importing a planetary map...as you can see these hardly cover the globe, just our little tropical corner of it:)

Ps Wally, I done these for a friend of mine at 1500 and 3000 scale..they cover the Bangladesh/South Asia area. Don't know if you study the area at all or not, but if you do, these will give a good idea as to the lay of the land.

You can take a look at this one and see if it is OK...I labeled the grids on the edges of the map at 5 degree intervals. This is the larger scale map that covers the gomex and caribbean, as I wasn't sure which one you were referring to.

Just extract and load as a basemap.
