Hurricanes

It is possible to follow the hurricanes Dennis and Emily. Now I try to follow the tropical cyclone neat Taiwan. but no output.
I choose typhoontrack #1. The file exists, but the content is different from the file for Dennis and Emily. Perhaps this is the cause of the problems. Is there anyone that succeeded?

Greetings

I've been wondering about that myself--perhaps it is because they are called typhoons over that way:) Don't know for sure, but I can't plot the file either.

Save me starting a new thread.

How would I change the model track colours in DAWS? Because of the basemap colours I`m using some of the tracks are clashing.

Also, when downloading model forecasts data and plotting the tracks, I`m only getting UKmet and GFDL, but missing the NHC track. Is there a particular time when the NHC track data is available?

Thanks.

Not: the below I found on the forum.
"In V1.1e official hurricane forecasts are now plotted with a linewidth of 2 and in dark red. There is no way of controlling this, but appropriate Style settings will be created soon."

From what side can you download the model data??

NHC models can be found at http://weather.noaa.gov/pub/data/raw/wh ... hg.hur.txt. But be advised that DAWS sometimes grossly errs in plotting the tracks. Tim uses some sort of mathematical spline curve to fit the data and lately there have been massive sinusoidal oscillations in the forecast tracks.

Hello Bob

Thanks for the site. And indeed: very strange output. Thanks for the warning.

After looking at this further, I believe the plotting errors are not caused by the curve drawing itself, but rather the last few forecast points are not being positioned correctly. Some of the latest ones, for instance, are showing up in west Africa.

One result of the most recent hurricane conference in Miami was the addition of tropical cyclone forecast positions while over land when HPC is handling the tropical depression (or its remains) over land. I'm not quite sure of the format yet, but beware of the upcoming change. A few field offices have been asking this of HPC for some time, even though they are plotted on the forecast maps.

I think the format will be ready by March 1 given the 90 day notice needed for these type of changes within the NWS.
