Very slow downloads :-S

Hi all,

I searched for this issue in the forums but I could not seem to find anyone else who had the same problem. Basically whenever I click 'retrieve data' from the internet. DAWS starts downloading the data but at a VERY slow rate. I can't understand it. I have a cable broadband connection and my file transfer rate it very high. However this only seems to occur in DAWS. Retrieving data can take as long as 25 minutes to go through about 12 different urls and the file sizes are aroun 1045kb?!

I really don't understand it and sadly this slow download speed is hindering my ability to use DAWS on a regular basis. I just cannot use it anymore because of this! I never seemed to have this problem before and when it occured I attributed it to my isp and connection speed. However I have changed isps and am using a faster cable broadband connection....?! :'(

I am not currently running any scripts in DAWS.

Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Arman Motiwalla

Could be one of the College or government servers was having problems. Which links were giving the trouble?

Pat

Hi,

Thanks for the prompt reply. I thought initially that it might be the servers of the sites but ALL of the links are giving me that problem. They are ALL extremely slow :'(

Hard to say what the trouble was.

Have your downloads been up to speed lately?

THANK U!

Thank you for the reply! :D Nope still same old problem. I even installed a 100 mbs ethernet connection and tried that against my wireless and the speed is still abysmal :( How many sources do you normally download from? I'm using 15 and I know that it would take more time to download 15 sets of data than just a few but still the filesizes are so small and it takes AGES! Its downloading right now as well.

Thanks again for the reply! :)

I usually dowload surface and upper air only. Depends on the situation, however. I can't imagine ever having tried to download more than 10 at once.

I'll check all the links and see what it does.

Edit: The Albany server seemed a little sluggish, as did warnings from the IWIN site. Nothing that was too terribly slow, however.

Downloading warnings works for you? I could never get it to work. Where do you get it from and what do oyu do?

Yes downloading them did work for me, plotting them is a different story as this was never added to DA WS (not that major of a thing as far as my part is concerned). I was merely checking all the links in the list for download speed.

Thanks

Thanks so much for the help. I'm downloading data now again lol but the speed isn't gret. I guess it has to do with DAWS having to prepare to download so many sources (i.e. switching to each different server may take time) as I cannot imagine how the small data sizes could affect the downloads! The sizes of the files to be downloaded are so small!

I guess I'll just have to live with it? :(

Thanks again for the help

I can't say I understand what the problem is on your end either. It took ~ 6 minutes for DA WS to download and process all of the links in the list when I checked.
