  • "Avoid." (2000) (rec.crafts.brewing post)
  • "My favorite place." (rec.crafts.brewing post)
  • "I'll admit to not having visited frequently, but I found the house brews their at best insipid, and had trouble finding guest beers that weren't at the very least tired and run-down tasting. ... Overcrowded, loud, and the beer sucked."
  • "I have noticed it being a bit too crowded myself lately. Weekday nights are a black and white difference from the weekend."
  • "You can't get much better for atmosphere in Austin, The Draught House (formerly the Draught Horse) has the feel of a traditional English pub. Come on Saturday after 5pm and get free bratwurst, which cant be beat. Last time I was there I had the Hammerhead Stout, which had the rich "mouthfeel" of good stout, but was somewhat lacking in character and flavor. I also got a pitcher of an IPA that was way under hopped for me. The other folks in my group got some sort of light house beer, but I didn't have any of it. With many of their own beers as well as other microbrews, you can't go wrong here, even if their own beers aren't exciting." (Macavity review)
  • "One of my favorite bars anywhere ... has a large (all good, no megabrew) beer selection, plus they have their own beer now. Also have installed several beer engines. The 'homebrews' have been an assortment of styles ... the IPA was underhopped for my tastes and the steam ale a little too pineappley, Vanilla Porter a bit too ephemeral, but other styles have been very well brewed, including the ultra bitter "Alimony Ale." Great atmosphere overall. Features an Irish Music jam session each Monday, starting around 9:30pm. -- Eric's Beer Page

  • "The new and improved Coppertank on Wednesday nights. The new brewer is excellent with many beer to choose from. Wednesday is dollar pint night. Handcrafted excellent beer for $1!!!" (Mar 2003) (rec.crafts.brewing post)
  • "The food is mediocre and the beer is, too... (I'd write more but I'm not going to wasting my time on this place)" (Macavity review)
  • "My opinion falls somewhere in between the two reviews below, in that the beer isn't bad, but I don't think it's uniformly great either. The Copper Tank does serve _some_ quality beer, and Thursday is $2 pint night." -- Eric's Beer Page

  • "was not disappointed, One Ton Imperial Stout was hands down favorite... food ok" (2000)
  • "The food is nothing to write home about, and the service leaves something to be desired, but the beer is worth the visit, if only to pay homage to Texas' first brewpub. Update: RIP 1993-2001" (Macavity Review)

  • "THE DESTINATION... pale ale is out of this world"
  • "The beers here have real character, but that's not why I come here. What draws me is their sparkling dry mead! Great stuff that I've found nowhere else. The food is great as well!" (Macavity review)
  • "Overall, the brewing side of this operation has undergone a rennaisance and is now in a league with the better brewpubs in the state; but still not quite as good overall as Waterloo. The food is still quite excellent, but the beer is finally reason enough on its own to go." -- Eric's Beer Page

  • "NXNW has six brews, one of which is seasonal. Overall, the beer is excellent here, especially the Duckabish Amber. They also had a black cherry ale, which had a pleasantly strong cherry nose, but not an overbearing cherry taste. Don't try to come here at night, there is usually a 60 to 70 minute wait. I visited on Sunday for lunch and the place was virtually empty, service is great at this time. I'll be returning here often." (Macavity Review)

  • "There were about 5 house brews on tap here, which were all similar is taste and color, except one that tasted like water. The beers are certainly not bad, but they are nothing special either. This plus a dark, dirty atmosphere gives it a low grade in my book. There is no food at all, and it is quite smoky. I had to go to Lovejoy's because it was the last brewpub in Austin that I hadn't yet visited, but now that I've been I will not be returning." (Macavity review)
  • "Pub with around twenty beers on tap, including the ever popular Live Oak beers, and many other fine regional brews, as well as a number of quasi-rare imports on tap. Very laid back atmosphere, and every night most pints are only $2.00. Perhaps the only bar in Austin which features a coffin for a table. Also a brewpub serving varying numbers of house beers. Quality usually pretty good." -- Eric's Beer Page

  • A tiny brewpub divided up into tables and lounge areas, bound to be crowded on Friday nights. The spacious atmosphere and large s balanced with a dark wood interior Nearly 100 beers are on tap, including a wide selection of local and regional microbrews. The cask-conditioned ale is in its own tap... be prepared to wait a few minutes as that head settles down! Pets are welcome!

  • "Overall, I think this branch of the Gingerman is the biggest, and in some ways the best. Houston's feels homier, but this branch is also very comfortable place to hang out in during the afternoon hours, although a bit crowded at night (but which G-man isn't?). Does very well in my book by supporting local breweries." -- Eric's Beer Page
