Comments and historySmall interceptor base operated by 941 IAP and possibly 9 IAP. The airfield initially operated MiG-19, Su-9, and MiG-23M during the 1960s. It saw an upgrade to 38 Su-27 aircraft starting in 1985. It should be noted that Polyarny is also the name of an airfield at Yakutsk. Satellite imagery taken around 2003 showed numerous fighter jets based at this airfield.
