Grib importing

Post by meweather »

Hi all,

I`m new to DAWS, and just downloaded to trial version. I wanted to try it out with importing grib data, but I`ve never done this before. If I can figure it out and it works as I hoped it would then I will be buying this.

I`ve tried importing grib data from Nomads, but I get this error `List of index out of bounds (-1)` when I press `select field`.

Is it an easy thing importing, ingesting and plotting grib data with DAWS?

Is this the software for me? I`m looking for software that can download, ingest, plot, export and ftp imagery to my site.

Grib Importing

Dear meweather:

You might find some useful information by going to page 2 here and following the thread "Grib data and importing". There was another user with similar concerns to yours. Hope this helps. If you need more help, feel free to ask.

I`m also getting the same error when trying to plot or contour a grib file. I`ve run through the manual, followed everything closely. Yup, I use the 211 grid. The file(s) will import fine, the problem occurs when I select the field, press OK and the error will be thrown up.

`List of index out of bounds (-1)`

I just downloaded the recent patch in the hope it would solve this problem, but it still comes up. FWIW, I`m running W2K professional on a fairly powerful machine.

Grib data and importing

Post by Carl Sidor »

I just checked my version of DAWS this morning (04-18-05 05:22a) and imported a grib file for forcast hour 24 of the data set for 04-16-05. The data plotted just fine. Are you importing more than one forecast hour at a time? This might be the source of the problem. I used the 211 grid for the NAM model from the NOMADS data site.

Yup, one forecast hour at a time and it throws up that error. I`m due to reformat my hard drive in a few days, maybe a clean install of DAWS might do the trick.

I`m 99% sure it`s a problem with DAWS, or the copy running on my machine. Weasel kindly emailed me a grib file that works ok on his machine but fails on mine.

Well, I finally downloaded the latest version and it is a fresh install but I`m still getting the dreaded `out of bounds` error.

The grib files import ok, the problem comes after I have selected field, it will just throws up this error and do nothing else.

Where`s Tim these days?
