When the ad says "topographic maps" does this mean it will become your regular background map once you zoom in to a certain point? How detailed are the maps and what is on them (streets, water bodies, airports, ect). I have this on my Christmas List and I just want to verify some of the facts with it.
The trial version lets you check this out over the New York city area. So to check them out click map, generate basemap, chose one of the raster projections from the drop down (at the top of the pop-up screen), enter 40.8 for latitude and -74 for longitude, click ok. The raster maps will show more and more detail/higher zoom as the map scale is reduced (the number in parenthesis on the far right). That is to say, to change the zoom level you must "regenerate" the map, as explained above using the different raster map versions - the speed button won't do anything.
I have the regular DAWS and I went to NYC to view them. Is what is available on here as far as you can zoom in on professional? Can you get down to street-level say for a small town (>100,000 people)?
The highest zoom you can get is with the joint operations graphic raster map, which is very detailed. You could choose to import a Tiger shapefile from ESRI as well. I haven't tried this in DA WS, but it is street level data.
This is an example using a DA WS shapefile import of the ESRI data mentioned earlier, with radar data overlaid. You can label the streets using the FENAME field as the file is imported, however this will look very cluttered with overlapping labels. Did you have one place in particular you needed street level maps for? If so, I'll try to make a map for you were the labels look a bit better:)
