Can someone give me a sequence of operations that will cause the white square to appear on doing Map > Erase on V1.0d?
I'm working to solve it but can't duplicate the problem on my end.

Hi Tim,
Sure, here's what happens:
First of all, I'm running Windows ME. I boot DAWS, plot anything or any number of things on the map, and then when I try to clear the map to plot other data, I just get the white square at the top left corner of the map. I have to generate a new basemap to get a blank chart, and after I do this, the map clearing button works fine. This sequence seems to happen under all circumstances.
Hope that helps!
Marc

You mean like this one

Well, Tim, all I did was
1. start up DAWS v1.0d; previously created map is displayed
2. download Metar data
3. plot Metar data
4. try to erase Metar data
5. white square appears in the upper left corner
It apparently has something to do with using previously created maps, because when generating a new map from scratch, this problem doesn't show up.
btw, when trying to close the above window, I received the following:

hth,
Bob

white square ooo map erase
Dear Tim;
I have encountered this problem only after installing patch "d". The map loads as usual, and the data(isotherms, etc) plot just fine. However when I hit the erase button, a white square appears in the upper left corner of the workchart. The rest of the map does not erase. Hitting the load basemap command is the only way to clear it. When you hit erase again, the same thing happens.
Unlike some other users, my newly created maps would work for that session, but the next session, the problem appears again. In fact, now the workchart does not appear on startup, but the white square does. Admittedly annoying, but the program does work in other tasks. Hope this is helpful.

Running DAWS with the latest patch (v1.0d) on WinXP SP1
1. Map > Load Base Map
2. Map > Copy markings onto base map
3. Draw any product
4. Clear the map (loaded base map remains on screen)
5. Close DAWS
6. Re-open DAWS (last map loaded before is the current worksheet)
7. Draw any product
8. Erase the map (box appears in the upper left corner of worksheet)
The box could be white, the color of the programs' "skin", or color of the background for the base map. The rest of the data on the map remains on the screen. I get the same result, whether I reload my base map or leave the one that is currently loaded. I can re-draw data onto the map after attempting to erase, but when I try to erase the new data, the blank box appears.
To make the erase command work again...
1. Maps > Generate base map
2. generate any base map from that menu
3. Map > Load Base Map
4. Map > Copy markings onto base map
5. Draw any data
6. Erase...data now erases properly
