Data for Canada

Post by britbob »

Hi,

I finally managed to get DAWS working on my PC after pulling most of my hair out yesterday!

I will be doing most of my mapping for mainland Canada, and sometimes North America. Most of the maps I will be after are SLP and frontal maps. Can someone recommend a good source of data/url`s for Canada?

So far I have used the default url`s, such as Albany. Please understand this is my first time using DAWS. Thanks.

Albany should work just fine for Canada. I use the COD site and get good data for Canada as well.

I still like the hamweather site for fronts:
http://www.hamweather.net/weather/asus01/asus01.txt
You don't have to worry about time tokens (that is, unless you WANT older data) as it is always the most recent/current file.

Thanks,

I am currently using Albany, works great for what I need. Unfortunately I am having problems with the fronts. Using either NCEP, Albany or Hamweather results in the fronts looking like a rope full of knots!!

The frontal problem you're having is the result of a bug in DAWS. Tim knows about it and will hopefully issue a fix when he starts programming work again.

In the meantime, if you're using the data retrieval window to grab your data, you can try this as a possible work-around...Move the frontal bulletins entry down to the bottom of the listbox, thereby insuring that this is the last piece of data that gets downloaded. Don't ask me how or why this works, but since making this change, I've not had any problems with the bogus fronts.

hth,
Bob
